Ultra-Luxury Model Coming to the Range Rover Lineup?

Land Rover is open to taking on the challenge of competing against the Bentley Bentasyga with a new model to sit at the top of their luxury lineup. While the Range Rover Autobiography is already positioned as a premium luxury SUV, they want to take it one step further and enter the ultra-luxury market.

The head of Land Rover’s design team, Gerry McGovern told Automotive News Europe, “Why not? It really wouldn’t be a huge step to come out with a halo model to top off the lineup, we certainly have experience in the SUV market.”

The Range Rover family currently has 4 variants available including Range Rover itself, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Velar and among each model is several trim options.

The size overlap in coming out with a new model wouldn’t be an issue for Land Rover as the Range Rover Sport and Velar models are similar in size. The halo model would appeal to a new set of customers, very likely the chauffeured crowd, with a plusher model to redefine the concept of luxury for the brand.

After seeing the colossal increase in Bentley sales, it is possible the Range Rover caught on to the fact that large, expensive SUV models are back in style. We can only speculate on the motivations behind considering a new addition to the already expansive lineup.

Carat Duchatelet and several other coachbuilders have already approached Land Rover offering expanded and first-class trimmed Range Rovers. Even before the Range Rover Autobiography trim was released, armorers were looking to get in on the ultra-luxury improvements to come up with a halo model for the lineup.
