American Eventing Championship Partners

Land Rover North America is once again partnering with the 2017 USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC) again this year for the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) in North Carolina that started yesterday, August 30, and continues through September 3, 2017.

The AEC gives both horse and rider combinations of every age and level an opportunity to compete in this special national championship. This event recognizes all professionals, amateurs, and juniors for their year-long accomplishments. It brings in the top riders in all divisions from all over the country to compete for the national title.

“We are happy to be a part of this weekend’s event as it helps develop the next generation of our equestrian athletes and also awards and recognizes the best riders in the nation, whether they are a Beginner Novice or are riding in the Advanced division,” Kim McCullough, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC, Vice President of Marketing, said.

“This event does a great job of creating a championship environment and the stunning facilities int he foothills of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountain range provide the perfect environment to showcase the capability and design of our vehicles.”

In addition to having the pleasure of viewing an exciting cross-country competition (designed by Captain Mark Phillips), spectators will be able to enjoy Land Rover’s ‘Ultimate Stable.’ The ‘Ultimate Stable,’ features the all-new seven-seat Land Rover Discovery with a variety of top equestrian apparel and equipment.

Children will also have an opportunity to join in on the Land Rover fun. Land Rover will have a multiple scaled-down, electric-powered replicas of the Land Rover Series 1 (1948) for children, ages four through ten, to drive on an unique mini off-road course.

Land Rover North America is proud to continue their part as the Official Vehicle of the United States Equestrian Foundation and the U.S. Land Rover Eventing Team at the 2017 USEA AEC.

Land Rover Reborn: Series 1

The Series 1 is where Land Rover got started. From there Land Rover has expanded and created the incredible vehicle line-up we at Land Rover Frisco are privileged to share. In recent years, Land Rover has been working to revitalize their rich heritage and restore original Land Rovers. In 2015, this particular Land Rover Series 1 came to Land Rover’s facility in Solihull and Land Rover Reborn emerged.

Michael Bishop from Land Rover Classic and Adam Bewley, a presenter, rode along together as this Series 1 went through a test drive.

“Series 1 is a term that was given to the vehicle in 1958 when the Series 2 came out,” Michael Bishop said. “All the vehicles previous to that Series 2 model became the Series 1, and you had a mix of products.”

“When it arrived it was actually a multitude of colors. It was originally bronze green,” Bishop said. “She spent all her life in the Outback. It was assembled in Australia originally, in 1950 on this massive estate, 25,000 hectares, so she was a little bit sunburn, a little bit beaten, a little bit worn out, but she came back to Solihull and went through the process of being restored.”

Bishop spoke about benefitting from Land Rover’s archives and engineering drawings from the original Land Rovers as they worked to restore this Series 1, “We can look at the vehicle, access what needs to be done to it, and decide whether that part needs to be restored or replaced. That’s the same with all of the Reborn vehicles.”

The Series 1 weighs 1,200 kilograms and has a 1.6 liter petrol engine with 55 horsepower. Since the vehicle is so lightweight, the engine puts out plenty of power to get it around.

“The seats are green vinyl, and that’s exactly what the specification was in the day. We kept the original key which is a replacement key from Newman’s Hardware in Townsville in Queensland, so it’s a little bit of authenticity there.”
