Jinsop Lee Evaluates New Velar

The new Range Rover Velar is going on the market soon! Land Rover Frisco can’t wait to share it with you. Recently, Land Rover had Design Thinking Consultant, Jinsop Lee, evaluate the new Range Rover Velar and give his take on its incredible design.

Jinsop Lee believes in a design approach that appeals to all five senses. He calls this way of evaluating design the “multisensory experience”.

When Jinsop Lee first met the new Range Rover Velar his initial reaction was that “the car has very handsome proportions” and he “could clearly see how much the designers had put into the details.”

Jinsop Lee described his way of approaching design by talking about sandwiches, “A great sandwich should have both hot ingredients and cold ingredients. Now another type of balance you’ll find in a great sandwich is when you bite into it. It’ll feel both crunchy, but the inside will be soft and moist, and all of these senses combined form to create a great sandwich.”

“When I first entered the Velar I noticed textures, feelings, and concepts that had been put together and balanced extremely well,” Jinsop Lee continued.

“So one of the great surprises was the steering wheel. Now of course I expected the steering wheel to be wrapped in something luxurious and soft, and it was. In the middle of that leather is a thin ring of metal, and visually it’s great because you can see something cold and hot in the middle of that plushness, but also, you can feel it. When you run your hands along the steering wheel in the middle of that comfort, the softness, you can feel a little bit of the cold of metal.”

“When you look at the overall design of the Range Rover Velar, you have this strong, proud exterior. You’ve got this high-tech interior that at the same time is cozy and welcoming, and it’s peaceful and quiet inside. You can really see that the Range Rover Velar was designed for the multisensory experience.”

Range Rover Explores Pacific Northwest

Land Rover has teamed up with Magnum Photos once again to bring another series of photographs for ‘Ultimate Vistas.’ This time, Land Rover and Magnum Photos have partnered with photographer Michael Christopher Brown to highlight landscapes from the United States’ Pacific Northwest.

Brown started his trip in Portland, Oregon behind the wheel of a production Land Rover Range Rover 5.0-liter V8 Supercharged and headed north towards Washington state.

The Range Rover was the perfect vehicle for the road trip because of its exceptional versatility. The Range Rover drove perfectly through snow, sand dunes, and rocky hillsides as Brown searched both urban and rural parts of the Northwest to photograph incredible vistas.

Along the route, Brown and his crew stopped along Chuckanut Drive, climbed Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier, and Mount Baker (all active volcanoes), and visited Strawberry Hill in Skagit Valley. From there the crew moved on to Seattle until they drove along the Pacific coast. Finally, they took a ferry to the remote San Juan Islands.

“I’m often driving off-road to go mountain biking, snowboarding, or hiking and having a vehicle that can handle confidently a variety of road and off-road conditions is key,” Brown said. “I always have a plan for a shoot but it’s important to remain open to other possibilities and the Range Rover allowed us to do that. Often the best pictures happen on the way and way back from a shoot. And while on the shoot, sometimes if I just stop what I’m doing and look around there are often unexpected, serendipitous surprises!”

InMotion Works to Change Mobility

Jaguar Land Rover’s mobility services business, InMotion, recently announced they will be investing in Lyft! Lyft is the quickest growing rideshare company in the United States.

Lyft was originally founded in 2012 as a way to bring people together using better transportation. Lyft is available in 350 cities nationwide and is the preferred ridesharing service by drivers and passengers. Lyft is dedicated to creating positive change in every city they service.

InMotion originally invested in the Detroit-based digital carpool business, SPLT. SPLT works with Lyft in providing medical transport for non-emergencies. This sparked InMotion’s interest in Lyft.

InMotion plans to invest 25 million dollars in Lyft that will go to support expansion and technology plans. In addition, InMotion’s investment supply Lyft drivers with a number of Land Rover and Jaguar vehicles and will allow InMotion Ventures to test and develop their mobility services.

Land Rover BAR Team is Ready to Win

It is finally here! It is time for the Land Rover BAR Sailing Team to compete for the America’s Cup! The Land Rover BAR Team is led by Sir Ben Ainslie, and they are more ready than ever to compete and take home the cup!

Located in Bermuda, the America’s Cup sailing competition features teams that have analyzed data, designed specialized equipment, and pushed boundaries. This year’s competition is sure to be thrilling to watch. The teams can reach speeds of over 60mph with boats that literally fly above the surface of the water.

The Land Rover BAR team and Land Rover have been working together for two years to design the boat the team will be using. Land Rover’s engineers and designers have thought through every scenario, designed a steering wheel using Human Machine Interface technologies, and implemented e-ink display screens. The Land Rover BAR team is definitely capable of bringing home the oldest trophy in international sport competition.

“As pioneers in the car industry we couldn’t thin of a better opportunity than to support the British America’s Cup team in their quest to win the hardest, and indeed oldest sporting trophy,” Mark Cameron, Land Rover Experiential Marketing Director, said. “Land Rover has been involved in sailing for a number of years, therefore being a part of the pinnacle event and having the opportunity to put our knowledge and expertise into the R1 race boat is a great showcase of a true industry collaboration between marine and automotive.”

The America’s Cup qualifying rounds started May 26. One of six teams will be eliminated before the playoffs begin on June 4.

Range Rover: How Fast Can it Go?

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR is a special vehicle. Built with incredible performance, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR lives up to the hype. Jaguar Land Rover recently put the Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR through a series of tests on several different terrains.

Their goal was to highlight the outstanding performance and capability of the standard Range Rover Sport SVR by seeing how long it took to go from 0-100kph. The different terrains included asphalt, grass, gravel, snow, mud, and sand.

The Range Rover Sport SVR used Michelin 275/45 R21 All-Season tires and the Land Rover Terrain Response 2 system. Both of these come standard with the Range Rover Sport SVR.

The Range Rover Sport SVR was taken to six different locations in Europe, all different terrains, to test its performance and the capability of the Terrain Response 2 system. When the Terrain Response 2 system is in use it will automatically select the best driving conditions for the appropriate terrain. You are also able to manually select a mode if you see a different condition coming ahead.

The first test was asphalt. The Range Rover Sport SVR was tested on the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, UK. The Dynamic mode was used, and the Range Rover Sport SVR made it 0-100kph in 4.7 seconds.

The second test was wet grass. This test was located at the Land Rover Experience, Rockingham Castle Estate, UK. The Terrain Response 2 system used the Grass/Gravel/Snow mode, and the trip was made in 5.5 seconds.

Next, the gravel test. The Range Rover Sport SVR used the Grass/Gravel/Snow mode, while driving in Selar Pit, UK, and went 0-100kph in just 5.3 seconds.

For the snow test, the Range Rover Sport SVR went to Jaguar Land Rover’s winter testing facility in Arjeplog, Northern Sweden. Driving in Grass/Gravel/Snow mode, the Range Rover Sport SVR completed the test in 11.3 seconds.

One of the Land Rover all-terrain testing centers, Walter’s Arena, UK, was the location of the mud test, in typical British driving conditions. The Terrain Response 2 system used the Mud and Ruts mode and the Range Rover Sport SVR made the trek in 6.5 seconds.

The last test, sand, took place on the Pendine Sands at Carmarthen Bay in South Wales. Using the Sand mode, the Range Rover Sport SVR quickly accelerated and went 0-100kph in 5.5 seconds.

This speed test for the Range Rover Sport SVR easily showcased its performance and versatility. With Land Rover’s passion to create luxury vehicles without compromising performance, you really cannot go wrong!
