Range Rover: How Fast Can it Go?

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR is a special vehicle. Built with incredible performance, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR lives up to the hype. Jaguar Land Rover recently put the Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR through a series of tests on several different terrains.

Their goal was to highlight the outstanding performance and capability of the standard Range Rover Sport SVR by seeing how long it took to go from 0-100kph. The different terrains included asphalt, grass, gravel, snow, mud, and sand.

The Range Rover Sport SVR used Michelin 275/45 R21 All-Season tires and the Land Rover Terrain Response 2 system. Both of these come standard with the Range Rover Sport SVR.

The Range Rover Sport SVR was taken to six different locations in Europe, all different terrains, to test its performance and the capability of the Terrain Response 2 system. When the Terrain Response 2 system is in use it will automatically select the best driving conditions for the appropriate terrain. You are also able to manually select a mode if you see a different condition coming ahead.

The first test was asphalt. The Range Rover Sport SVR was tested on the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, UK. The Dynamic mode was used, and the Range Rover Sport SVR made it 0-100kph in 4.7 seconds.

The second test was wet grass. This test was located at the Land Rover Experience, Rockingham Castle Estate, UK. The Terrain Response 2 system used the Grass/Gravel/Snow mode, and the trip was made in 5.5 seconds.

Next, the gravel test. The Range Rover Sport SVR used the Grass/Gravel/Snow mode, while driving in Selar Pit, UK, and went 0-100kph in just 5.3 seconds.

For the snow test, the Range Rover Sport SVR went to Jaguar Land Rover’s winter testing facility in Arjeplog, Northern Sweden. Driving in Grass/Gravel/Snow mode, the Range Rover Sport SVR completed the test in 11.3 seconds.

One of the Land Rover all-terrain testing centers, Walter’s Arena, UK, was the location of the mud test, in typical British driving conditions. The Terrain Response 2 system used the Mud and Ruts mode and the Range Rover Sport SVR made the trek in 6.5 seconds.

The last test, sand, took place on the Pendine Sands at Carmarthen Bay in South Wales. Using the Sand mode, the Range Rover Sport SVR quickly accelerated and went 0-100kph in 5.5 seconds.

Land Rover Commits to Renewable Energy

Jaguar Land Rover has been and remains committed to a cleaner future by focusing on renewable energy.

Recently, Jaguar Land Rover has come into an agreement with EDF Energy to only purchase electricity from renewable sources. This agreement goes until 2020.

The electricity supply is backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin, which means a portion of EDF Energy’s renewable energy is ear-marked specifically for Jaguar Land Rover. Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certifies that the portion of the electricity supply comes from renewable generation. 100% for Jaguar Land Rover.

“Our future is low-carbon, clean, and efficient,” Ian Harnett, Executive Director of Human Resources and Global Purchasing, Jaguar Land Rover, said. “Our program to recuse our burden on the National Grid doesn’t end here: we seek continual improvements, both in how we can reduce energy consumption further and how to minis our carbon emissions. Our aim is to give our customers as assurance that the company’s electricity will come from renewable sources: those being in addition to the solar array at our Engine Manufacturing Center in Wolverhampton, one of the largest rooftop installations in Europe.”

Jaguar Land Rover continues to research and develop more sustainable powertrains by investing more than $3 billon. They are working to develop electric, hybrid, and conventional powertrains that will leave less of a carbon footprint.

Jaguar Land Rover and Ford Run “Talking” Car Trial

Self-driving cars a thing of the future? It could happen sooner than you think! Jaguar Land Rover and Ford are currently embarking on the first trials of this kind, and the United Kingdom wants to have self-driving vehicles by the end of 2020.

Jaguar Land Rover and Ford are testing cars that “talk” to one another. The hope is that by communicating with each other, cars will be able to eliminate accidents and cut down drive times by automatically putting you on the most efficient route.

Over the next four years, Jaguar Land Rover plans to manufacture more than 100 vehicles to be used as research to, hopefully, further the technology needed for self-driving vehicles.

Vehicles that speak to each other and connect with different types of technology will be able to adjust their speeds to miss fewer traffic lights, and will know if another vehicle suddenly hits its breaks.

They will be able to let other cars know their breaking status, steering-wheel position, speed, which lane they are in, and other data. In short, vehicles will be so in tune with every vehicle around them that you will not have to worry about accidents.

A lot of vehicles already have different kinds of technology that can detect their surroundings, but it is limited. It often cannot see past a few car lengths away. The technology being tested by Jaguar Land Rover and Ford is still imperfect and will need more time and energy focused on it to create vehicles that can safely transport their inhabitants.

However, this trial is just the start of a new era of vehicle we hope to see on the roads very soon. Self-driving cars may seem to be a little futuristic, but if something can be created to lower or eliminate the amount of vehicle accidents every year, it is probably worth our attention.

New Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations Paint Facility

Land Rover has built a brand new Special Vehicle Operations paint facility that will deliver cars with almost limitless paint options. Customers will be able to select any color and any finish.

The vehicle starts in the top notch body shop where it is cleaned thoroughly to pave the way for a perfect paint application. Once the vehicle is cleaned, it is hand sprayed by a master painter to guarantee optimum coverage. Then two cutting edge robots apply a perfect finish across the entire vehicle. This is done with absolute precision, measured down to the last micron.

The vehicle is then dried in the over and then cooled to the correct temperature to make sure the protective top coat will adhere perfectly. Once the clear protective top coat has been applied it is cured in the main oven. Finally, the vehicle enters the audit facility where it is thoroughly checked for an outstanding paint finish and uniformity.

Land Rover is always striving to offer more advanced paint technologies. This is implemented in many ways, including duo tone finishes and ChromaFlair.

Duo tone adds to the individuality and customization of the vehicle. Customers can choose complementing colors to really refine and personalize.

The ChromaFlair finish adds to the customers’ personal tastes. This finish includes pigments that exhibit a wide range of hue. This gives vibrant colors a color change when you look at it from different angles and in different levels of light.
