Unless you’ve been in a galaxy far, far away, you know by now that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is now officially open at Disneyland Resort in California! You no longer need a reservation to visit the planet Batuu, but the land is subject to capacity. We were frogtastically excited to visit several times during the reservations period. New details have been announced regarding entrance to the land and same-day reservations for popular experiences. And there is still more to open later this year. Hop along as we share the details below along with important tips!
Getting in to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland After June 23, 2019
The park opened to guests with reservations May 31 to June 23, 2019. As of June 24, you no longer need a separate reservation to access the land. However, capacity is limited, and Disneyland may restrict access to the park, land and experiences based on guest demand and other factors. Once the land is full, Disneyland will implement a “Virtual Queue.” Be sure to download the latest version of the Disneyland app before your visit, link your party’s park tickets and enable push notifications.
Open the app to learn about Star Wars:Galaxy’s Edge Status and Access either before you enter the park or after you have entered. If the current land status is open, you can head right there! If it displays “Access by Boarding Group only,” you can click on a button to join a boarding group to enter the land. You have to be in Disneyland park to join a boarding group. The boarding group saves you a virtual spot so you can enjoy the rest of Disneyland instead of standing in line (and you know how we frogs love skipping the lines!) until it is your turn to enter the land. There is an estimated land wait, so you’ll have some idea of when you might get in. Be sure to have everyone in your party linked together to request the same boarding group and create your party.
Once you have a boarding group, you’ll receive a boarding group number and confirmation. You’ll receive a push notification when it’s time to enter the land. You’ll have two hours to enter the land, allowing you to complete any unfinished business in Disneyland before entering. The app will direct you to one of the three entrances to the land (on our visit, it was the middle entrance closest to Frontierland), where you will present your entry code and/or park ticket for scanning (we had to show the code to get in). If you want to see which groups are being admitted, you can check your status in the app or at digital signage in the park. Having a designated boarding group does not guarantee access to the land. The reservation is tied to your park ticket, and you have to have entered the park to join a boarding group.
If you are not using the Disneyland app, look for park signage. You may obtain a boarding group with your park admission ticket at the following select Disneyland FASTPASS distribution locations such as:
Indiana Jones Adventure
On June 24, the first day the land was officially open to everyone, guests no longer needed to join a boarding group to enter the land by about 4:30 p.m. Even during the morning and early afternoon when boarding groups were necessary, Disneyland moved through the boarding groups very quickly, moving through about 10 boarding groups per hour. The process was easy and allowed us to enjoy Disneyland park for two hours before entering Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. On the next day, the land remained open all day without the need for boarding groups.
You need a reservation to access Savi’s Workshop and Oga’s Cantina. These popular destinations in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have very limited capacity. You may book a same-day reservation starting at 7:00 a.m. with a valid credit card through the Disneyland app or through the Disneyland site for Cantina reservations or Savi’s Workshop reservations. Having a verified reservation for Savi’s workshop and Oga’s Cantina will allow you to access the land at the time of your reservation, so you do not need to join a boarding group (if applicable).
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will not be open during Magic Morning or Extra Magic Hours. Keep in mind that Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, one of two headlining attractions, opened with phase one, while Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is set to open during phase two later this year.
The official opening for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World will be Aug. 29, 2019. It will also have a phased opening, with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance making its debut later in the year. Now we’ll turn it over to Tad, our Star Wars fanatic, to bring you the ribbeting details of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
